DISCLAIMER: Due to the immediate need to put this training online necessitated by COVID-19, the once completely collaborative process on the training’s content was not as thorough as we were accustomed to in years past. That said, we are not in agreement with the content of this training that has parts that perpetuate religious rhetoric of any kind. At IRN, we recognize that religion played a role in the colonization of nations, where the impacts of imperialism/colonialism have had long-term debilitating consequences. We are continuing to send this training to community members and potential volunteers because of the thorough explanation of the legal process that UN refugees are required to go through before, during, and after their arrival to the United States (or any other third country they are placed). We are working towards a more comprehensive training that is inclusive to all volunteer and refugees.
